Kids with St. Nick

We don't do the "Santa thing" at our house, but the other day when I was in Wal-Mart, a lady asked the kids if they wanted to have their picture taken with Santa. I politely answered "no", but the lady had told the kids that Santa would give them a piece of candy afterward. So, before I knew what was happening, Katie was on Santa's lap, ready to earn her piece of candy! Hunter was right behind her! So, here are the results of some candy-hungry children:)

Our Evening Drive

This afternoon, we went on a drive looking for deer, and here are a few of the bucks that we saw. We probably saw around 200 deer, with at least 50 of them being bucks. My husband was ready to hunt!

Merry Christmas Bedding!

My mom sent our Christmas money early this year, and as we're hoping to remodel our bedroom this coming Spring, new bedding seemed in order. We're planning on decorating alot with pinecones, and I was thrilled to find this Barn-raising Pinecone Quilt set at a discount quilt outlet. I was going to wait until the bedroom was finished before using it, but one thing that I have learned this year is - enjoy life, every particle of it, no matter how small. After all, you might never get the opportunity again. So, I am indeed enjoying our new bedding. My kiddos think it's "JUST BEAUTIFUL, MAMA!" Thanks, Mom!

Thanksgiving Week

Mike's parents were here with us for the week of Thanksgiving. The kids had a great time fishing, playing at the park, and opening all the Christmas presents that Grandma and Papa brought them!

A Warm Christmas Welcome!

Although we know very few of you can actually drop by, we would like to invite you into our home (via the blog) to enjoy the holiday season with us. If you stop in soon, you can enjoy a fresh piece of Coconut Cream Pie and a hot cup of coffee (or, if you prefer, a cold glass of milk:) Our tree, you will find decorated with pheasant feathers, Mule deer antlers, glass Moose bulbs, pinecones, and an assortment of other "outdoorsy" decorations. Just let me know when you're coming, and I'll whip up your favorite Christmas treat!

Happy Birthday in Heaven

November 24th - 40 years ago - my wonderful big brother was born. He was my mother's firstborn son. She went into labor for him on Thanksgiving Day. It's been a holiday season filled with mixed emotions. As I decorated for Christmas yesterday, I kept thinking about how much Mike loved everything Christmas! I am very thankful for the time I had with my brother while he was here with us. I never dreamed that he would be spending his 40th birthday with Jesus this year, but I am thankful for that too. I am thankful that Mike is cancer-free, pain-free, and happy. I love my brother. I miss him. I am most thankful that in Heaven there will be no more sorrow and no more parting.

Happy Thanksgiving - From Our Family to Yours!

The turkey's in the oven; the rolls are raising; the dessert is on the counter - Thanksgiving dinner is in the making! Wish you could all drop in for a "howdy". Mike's parents are here for the holiday. It's so nice to have family with us, as we live so far away from all of ours. Here's wishing all of you a very blessed Thanksgiving Day. I'm thankful for my blogging friends!

Katie Joy

Here is a picture of Katie that I snapped yesterday. The hat she is wearing was made by her Great Grandma Haynes out of tissue paper and silk flowers. It is a nice remembrance of her. Katie is holding her new Webkinz puppy, Ruffles, that Grandma and Papa Sayler brought for her.

Newly Painted Living Room

My wonderful husband spent most of the day yesterday painting my living room before his parents arrived. We managed to get everything back in place and pictures up before we collapsed into bed. I love the new look (it feels much cozier and won't show the wood smoke) and I love my interior decorator;) Stop by when you get a chance!

Pumpkin Carving - FINALLY!

Here it is November 8th, and we're finally getting around to carving the kids' pumpkins! (Pardon Katie, she's still in her jammies:)Surprisingly enough, my messy boy did not like getting his hands full of "pumpkin goo"! But the chickens really enjoyed the "goo" as you can see from this picture. Some seeds in Hunter's pumpkin had sprouted, so the kids went outside and planted them. Katie says that we'll never have to buy another pumpkin now! We roasted the rest of the pumpkin seeds for a snack! Happy Harvest!

Katie and Hunter Helping with the "Fall Harvest"

We've got some great helpers in the Sayler house! Katie and Hunter washed most of the deer & elk meat. And Katie was beyond thrilled when we let her run the meat grinder this year!

What a Character!

As you can easily see, one thing that Hunter has is "lots of life"! As my brother Mike said about Hunter - "He's wide open!" But we love him that way. Now, if we can just get all that energy and personality channeled in the right direction!

A Quote for Parents

My children, my darling precious children, what I want them to be - I must become myself.
(a quote from Stepping Heavenword by Elizabeth Prentiss)
This quote has challenged me today. I thought I would share it with you.
